Guidelines for Breeder Registration & Renewal
Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board — Read all guidelines before applying
- GSR 496(E), dated 23.05.2017, issued by the Government of India, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules, 2017.
- According to these rules, any person who carries out dog breeding or sells dogs must obtain registration certificate from Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board.
- Only after obtaining registration can a person legally carry out dog breeding or dog sales.

- The applicant must submit the application Form along with the prescribed documents and pay a registration fee of Rs. 5000 (Rupees Five Thousand only) as specified.
- The application form must be properly filled and signed.
- The name and address of the applicant, along with details of the place where the dog breeding or selling activity will be conducted, must be clearly mentioned in the application.
- The applicant must attach all required supporting documents along with the application.
- If the application is incomplete or incorrect, it may be rejected by the authority.
- The registration certificate issued by the Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board will be valid for two years. After expiry, renewal must be obtained by paying Rs. 5000 again.
- The application along with the documents should be submitted with a Demand Draft for Rs. 5000 drawn in favour of: Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board, Payable at Chennai.
- License cannot be obtained from the Local bodies without obtaining the Registration Certificate from the Board.
