Guidelines for Breeder Registration & Renewal

Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board — Read all guidelines before applying

  1. GSR 496(E), dated 23.05.2017, issued by the Government of India, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules, 2017.
  2. According to these rules, any person who carries out dog breeding or sells dogs must obtain registration certificate from Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board.
  3. Only after obtaining registration can a person legally carry out dog breeding or dog sales.
  4. Procedure for Registration for Dog Breeding and Dog Selling.
  5. The applicant must submit the application Form along with the prescribed documents and pay a registration fee of Rs. 5000 (Rupees Five Thousand only) as specified.
  6. The application form must be properly filled and signed.
  7. The name and address of the applicant, along with details of the place where the dog breeding or selling activity will be conducted, must be clearly mentioned in the application.
  8. The applicant must attach all required supporting documents along with the application.
  9. If the application is incomplete or incorrect, it may be rejected by the authority.
  10. The registration certificate issued by the Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board will be valid for two years. After expiry, renewal must be obtained by paying Rs. 5000 again.
  11. The application along with the documents should be submitted with a Demand Draft for Rs. 5000 drawn in favour of: Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board, Payable at Chennai.
  12. License cannot be obtained from the Local bodies without obtaining the Registration Certificate from the Board.
